(Regarding the introduction of the state payment

for the National Pension,

As the projected date of fund depletion for the National Pension is expected to be moved forward by three years, making an increase in contributions inevitable, controversy over the National Pension continues, with people asking, "Will we end up paying more and receiving less?"

In particular, an increasing number of contributors are raising equity issues regarding the National Pension amount, which is far lower than the Government Employees Pension amount.

Although a difference exists in that the latter includes severance pay within the pension, the Government Employees Pension Act differs from the National Pension, which has no state guarantee of benefit payment, by stipulating that the state or local governments shall bear the deficit.

Accordingly, claims that the abolition of the pension is the answer are being posted on the presidential office website bulletin board.

Representative Ha Tae-kyung strongly argued, "When I was a first-term lawmaker, I participated in negotiations to amend the Government Employees Pension, and even then,

the resistance from civil servants was enormous," adding, "There is criticism asking if civil servants are some kind of privileged class, so the Government Employees Pension must be abolished."

As another reason for advocating abolition, he pointed out, "If a deficit occurs, the state is set to fill the gap for the Government Employees Pension, but there is no such thing for the National Pension," and "The difference in pension amounts is also significant."
