(YTN Saengsaeng Economy Report on the Government Employees Pension, January 13, 2014)

(Through the radio broadcast below,
it is necessary to
compare the status of the
Government Employees Pension in 2014 with
the reality of the Government Employees Pension now, more than 12 years later.
At the time of the 2014 broadcast, the number of civil servants was about 1 million.
Since there are currently about 1.28 million
civil servants, the number of civil servants
has increased by nearly 300,000,
or approximately 30%.
In the financial projection for the Government Employees Pension at that time,
the financial outlook
was projected by assuming the number of Government Employees Pension
contributors to be around 1.1 million in the long term.
However,
compared to that assumption,
since approximately 200,000 more civil
servants are paying contributions,
that is, due to the contribution
income from about 200,000 more people
than originally projected,
the scale of the deficit subsidy for the Government Employees Pension
appears to be decreasing,
but the deficit subsidy
at the point when these
individuals fully transition to
beneficiaries could increase to a level
beyond imagination.
It is necessary to intensively
examine this point.
