[Open World] Pension Reform Must Find a Path for Future Generations

As debate over National Pension reform has once again come to the fore, the opposition party and certain civic organizations are forcefully advocating for the "pay more, receive more" option that was adopted during the public deliberation process of the National Assembly Special Committee on Pension Reform. This approach would raise the contribution rate while also increasing pension benefits, with any future financing shortfall to be covered by the national treasury. Although this proposal is framed as a reform aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the National Pension system, it is in substance nothing more than a regressive deterioration—reform in name only—that shifts the fiscal burden onto future generations. In order to prevent National Pension reform from becoming a superficially appealing change for the worse that enriches only a portion of the current generation at the expense of future generations, it is necessary to properly understand the facts that have been overlooked or obscured until now.
