Pension Future Forum: “Key Information Omitted from the Pension Reform Public Deliberation Process” (2024.04.24)

(KBS TV reported at the time on a Pension Future Forum press conference that denounced the problems in the operation of the National Assembly’s Public Deliberation Committee, which had been carried out under the 21st National Assembly.

The 22nd National Assembly’s Special Committee on Pension Reform, which was formed in response to criticism that the essence of the March 20, 2025 amendment to the National Pension Act was to strengthen the pension vested interests of the 586 generation at the cost of sacrificing the younger generation and future generations, is effectively sitting idle.

Instead, voices are emerging from parts of the political world calling for going through again the public deliberation process that was operated in a biased manner in the 21st National Assembly.

As a way of guarding against this, we are posting the article on the Pension Future Forum’s Emergency Statement, delivered in April 2024 in front of the National Assembly’s main gate!)

A claim has emerged that there were problems in the recently conducted public deliberation process for National Pension reform.

The ‘Pension Future Forum,’ composed of pension-related researchers, issued a position statement today,

and demanded a revote, saying that key content was not conveyed during the citizen representative group’s learning process for the deliberation.

Two days earlier (on the 22nd), the Public Deliberation Committee under the National Assembly’s Special Committee on Pension Reform announced that 56% of the citizen representative group who took part in the final survey had chosen the ‘income-security plan,’ which involves paying more and receiving more.
