Pension Future Forum: “Key Content Was Missing from the Citizen Representatives' Learning Process — There Should Be a Revote” (2024-04-24)

(Even though there was a fatal procedural flaw in the decision-making process of the 21st National Assembly's Public Deliberation Committee citizen representative group, announced in April 2024, the political offensive at the time insisting that this be accepted regardless was beyond imagination.
It appears that some in the political world are now raising the idea of pushing through this same kind of distorted decision-making process again in the 22nd National Assembly, so we are posting this article in the Pension Future Forum's resource archive as a warning.
This is a strong expression of the Pension Future Forum's determination that this mistaken decision-making process must not be repeated.)
Regarding the fact that the citizen representatives who took part in the public deliberation on National Pension reform selected the 'pay more, receive more' option,
some researchers argued, “key information was missing from what the citizen representative group learned,” and asserted, “we should inform the representative group of the key content and have them vote once more.”
The Pension Future Forum, whose members include Yoon Seok-myung, Research Fellow Emeritus at the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHASA), issued a position statement to this effect today (the 24th), and
urged, “after closely reviewing the activities of this Public Deliberation Committee, a new, broader and unbiased forum for discussion should be established.”
Earlier, on the 22nd, the Public Deliberation Committee under the National Assembly Special Committee on Pension Reform had announced that a majority — 56.0% — of the 492-member citizen representative group who took part in the final survey had chosen the 'income security option.'

The Pension Future Forum argued that the content the citizen representative group learned during the deliberation process was “biased.”
The Forum stated, “there is a difference of 2,700 trillion won in the scale of the deficit between Option 1 and Option 2 after 70 years, and
compared to the baby-boom generation, the generation to be born within the next 10 years will have to bear five times more in contributions, and
the ratio of national debt to GDP will reach 192.6% by 2070,” and demanded of the Public Deliberation Committee that the citizen representative group vote once more after learning this key content.
It also called for all the content that the citizen representative group learned to be disclosed in full, and
argued that the fairness, impartiality, and possible errors of the materials provided should be verified.
