Pension Future Forum: "Let's Discuss Reform Again in the 22nd National Assembly" (JoongAng Ilbo, 2024.05.13.)

The Pension Future Forum, an academic organization, urged on the 13th that “the pension reform bill be discussed again in the 22nd National Assembly.”

The Forum issued a position statement that day, saying, “Data analysis has confirmed that if the current state of the National Pension is maintained, it will place an enormous burden on future generations while the system itself remains inherently unsustainable,” and made this statement accordingly.

They criticized the public deliberation process of the National Assembly Special Committee on Pension Reform. The Forum criticized this, saying, “The 'pay more, receive more' proposal that the Public Deliberation Committee put forward while congratulating itself as 'the great mandate of the people' was hammered by most pension experts and the media and was all but discarded — and now it is puzzling to see the ruling and opposition parties suddenly try to reach agreement over an income replacement rate of 43% or 45%.” They also appealed, “Please return to the original question: 'Why must we reform the National Pension?'”
