(Channel A News Top 10, Assessment of the Government Employees Pension Act Amendment, Report of May 4, 2015) “It Cannot Go On Like This” — Government Employees Pension Reform Veers Off Course (Posted October 8, 2026)

These are assessments of the May 2015 Government Employees Pension Act
amendment
by a panel of four guests.
Because these are comments by non-experts,
some of what is said
is not factually accurate, but
on the whole
the points made are valid, and so,
in the Pension Future Forum’s Insights category,
under the “Pension Reform Debates” heading,
we post it here.
Now, 11 years on from that situation,
even though things have festered far more,
nowhere in our society
does one hear even a voice saying that the Government Employees Pension
must be reformed.
The money collected as excess tax revenue from semiconductors—
people seem to be thinking only about how to spend it.
(If reform is neglected at the right time,
what happens as a result
is something the cases of Italy, Greece, and others
have already shown us well enough.
In Greece, the benefits of recipients of large pensions,
such as government employees’ pensions,
were cut by 50% overnight.)
Although the fiscal instability in France
is not someone else’s problem,
the mood is one of watching
a fire across the river.
