The amendment to the National Pension Act passed on March 20, 2025, represents an unprecedented deterioration in substance — a change for the worse that imposes an even greater burden on younger cohorts.
The Special Committee on Pension Reform of the 22nd National Assembly, established to address the resulting discontent among younger cohorts, appears to have lost its way. This is because the Committee has been unable to focus on the structural reform discussions — including the introduction of an automatic adjustment mechanism — that constituted its original mandate.
