Before the Sewol ferry disaster, there was a heated issue in our society. It was about the pensions that civil servants receive.
It began with an announcement from the government a while ago.
From 2009 to last year, the revenue from the Government Employees Pension and the National Pension was 37.9 trillion won, while the payments were 51.8 trillion won; in other words, a deficit of 13.9 trillion won occurred.
The announcement stated that this deficit is filled entirely with the public's taxes.
Consequently, claims poured out asking why their taxes are used to fill the Government Employees and Military Pensions, and demanding that they be reformed immediately.
Regarding this, civil servant and teacher
organizations, progressive and conservative alike,
have recently resolved to launch
a joint struggle together.
Who is correct?
While listening to the opinions of both sides,
Please make an objective judgment for yourselves.
First, we have Yun Suk-myung, Research Fellow at the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHASA), with us.
Hello.
