National Pension Also Temporarily Suspends 'Rebalancing' of Domestic Stocks (2026.01.27)
- #국민연금법

The National Pension will raise its target allocation to domestic equities this year and has also decided to temporarily suspend its 'rebalancing (asset allocation adjustment)' rule, under which it mechanically sells stock whenever its allocation exceeds the target.
The National Pension Fund Management Committee (hereafter the Fund Committee) announced on the 27th that it had held its first meeting of 2026 on the 26th and approved a portfolio improvement plan along these lines. The Fund Committee is the top decision-making body that deliberates and resolves on important matters concerning the management of the National Pension Fund. The Minister of Health and Welfare serves as its chair, and it includes officials from relevant ministries along with representatives of employers, workers, and regional (community) insured members.

What the market paid particular attention to was the decision to temporarily suspend rebalancing. Until now, whenever its asset allocation strayed outside the target permissible range, the National Pension had mechanically sold stock under its rules to bring the allocation back into line.
