National Fiscal Deficit Reaches 54.2 Trillion Won Through May — On Par with the Prior Year (July 2026) (July 9, 2026)

(How on earth is the national budget being managed that, even though tax revenue rose by as much as 27.5 trillion won, a national debt amounting to 50.2 trillion won has nonetheless been piled up?!)

The national fiscal deficit through May of this year has been found to amount to 54.2 trillion won.

According to the "Monthly Fiscal Trends — July Issue" released by the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 9th, total revenues from January through May of this year stood at 330 trillion won, an increase of 50.2 trillion won compared to the same period last year.

National tax revenues, which account for the largest share of total revenues, reached 199.9 trillion won, up 27.5 trillion won from the prior year.
