(Following the live broadcast
on the day the government’s Basic Pension overhaul plan was announced,
September 1, 2026,
with Co-Representative Oh Gun-ho)
this program was planned in advance as a Chuseok special
and, on the afternoon of September 22, 2026,
went out live.
What the circumstances were,
we do not know, but
it was only 14 days after the broadcast,
on the morning of October 6,
that the program appeared online.
Normally, after a broadcast related to the Basic Pension
is over,
SBS Biz produces a YouTube version.
The September 1 live broadcast
in which Co-Representative Oh Gun-ho also appeared
has a YouTube view count that
is now passing 400,000.
But why!
For this broadcast alone,
why is there no YouTube version?
One cannot help wondering.
Because it was a Chuseok special,
the program ran about 44 minutes in total.
After the broadcast ended,
the SBS Biz production staff
said this on the spot:
“Today’s program was excellent.
The time was far too short.
We really must do a ‘Season 3.’”
Even though that was the verdict at the time,
not even a YouTube video
has been produced,
which only deepens the curiosity.
In the broadcast, there is this passage:
“Originally, the Ministry of Health and Welfare
had intended to announce a plan to lower
Basic Pension eligibility
to 80% of standard median income.
But one hour before Minister Jung Eun-kyeong’s
press briefing,
it was suddenly called off.
Who could have blocked it!
(The program’s host, Ko Kwang-chul,
asked Co-Representative Oh Gun-ho again and again.
In the end,
he even uttered the words “the presidential office,”
but neither of the two guests answered.)
There is another important passage.
It comes from the 38-minute mark of the video onward.
It is a remark by Committee Member Yun Suk-myung.
“The National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee and
the National Assembly Special Committee on Pension Reform seem to have different positions.
Before the first meeting of the special committee’s advisory committee began,
Representative Oh Ki-hyung, the Democratic Party’s secretary on the special committee,
said this to Committee Member Yun Suk-myung:
‘The current Basic Pension has many problems, so it seems appropriate to reduce the number of Basic Pension recipients and use the funds saved there to narrow the coverage gaps in the National Pension.’
Committee Member Yun Suk-myung’s further remarks:
‘Unlike the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee,
the special committee seems to believe that Korea’s pension system
must not be left as it is.
Special Committee Chairman Yoon Young-seok,
Democratic Party secretary Oh Ki-hyung,
and People Power Party secretary Ahn Sang-hoon
seem to have joined forces
to try to get something done.’
There is that remark as well.”
Listening to it again,
it seems that a good deal was said
that one does not hear in an ordinary broadcast.
That is why we recommend watching
the attached video
from the 38-minute mark onward.
